ⓘ About city size

Filters the available weather cities, including capitals, with population at least the selected minimum. Any size retains cities with missing population data. With a minimum, missing figures are excluded, never replaced with another boundary.

City proper is the source's local city definition, often a municipality, but not always. Wider urban figures follow national definitions and may include surrounding settlements or commuting areas. These are dated population snapshots, independent of the climate period. Open a city's population for both figures and sources.

Data and calculation details

The bundled snapshots contain hourly ERA5-Land temperature and dew point data at 45 European national capitals plus Boston and San Francisco. Choose the latest 10, 20, or 30 complete years. Scores use each city’s historical local clock and exclude 29 February.

Expected comfort weights every historical observation. Median and percentile modes first summarize each calendar date and local hour across the selected period, then apply the same five-band score.

Model grid temperatures cannot represent every neighbourhood, especially in cities with strong coastal or elevation-driven microclimates.
